Championship game results from Aug 15:
Here are the results for the semi-finals of the playoffs:
Milltown jumped all over Brick early and led by as many as 23 before winning rather easily 27-13.
Here are the results for the quarterfinals in ASL play:
Brick silenced Manalapan’s attack as they won their contest 16-5.
Next week’s games:
3-Milltown (+1) at 2-Brick, this is a rematch from earlier this year which Brick was victorious, I expect a hard fought, close game where either team could win.
Here are the results for Week 12 in ASL play:
2011 ASL Playoffs View:
1- WB-Shannon Rose – The lone undefeated team in our league. This team has been there before losing a very tight championship game last season. They are looking to be the first “legit” team to run the table for an entire season.
Prediction – Although they may be a little rusty with the lack of games against quality or any opponents down the stretch, they should be able to get through their first round opponents to set up a potential rematch of last years’ championship in the semifinals. A perfect season is not out of the question but I believe they will fall short in the semis. (odds to win it all 2-1)
2- Brick – These guys seem to have played their best early on in the season as they have not been nearly as sharp or dominating but did pick up some big victories most note-worthy sweeping Manchester and defeating Milltown
Prediction – Should have enough to get by an up and down Manalapan team but could see them busting out to either potential semifinal opponent. (odds to win it all 5-1)
3- Milltown – They have completely destroyed all of the inferior opponents they have played this year. They did struggle a bit against top tier opponents Brick and SR but seem to dominate anyone else.
Prediction – I gotta believe they received no favors by drawing a battle tested Tinton Falls in round 1. Although I wouldn’t be shocked to see them go down I see them slipping by, winning by a more comfortable margin in the semis and falling in the finals in a close one. (odds to win it all 3-1)
4-Howell – This team swept through South D but were swept by Tinton and beaten handily by Manalapan. They have some big bats in the lineup but the worse female players in the league which could be their Achilles’ heel.
Prediction – Although they defeated Manchester in the regular season, I really believe they will have a difficult time repeating that performance this time around and see them bowing out early. (odds of winning it all 9-1)
5- Manchester – Last year’s defending champions tend to show up when they need to. They were swept by Brick which makes me wonder if they are more vulnerable than I see with my own eyes.
Prediction – They will look to exact some revenge on Howell in the first round and try to set up a rematch with SR in the semis. Although both teams will get up for this game I believe Manchester to be the best team I’ve seen when they play their best and I see them moving on to the finals versus Milltown. I believe we may have back to back champs this year. (odds to win it all 3-1)
6- Tinton Falls – This team may be the most battle tested this year as they have seemingly played a ridiculously tough schedule. They came within an eyelash of beating SR in Woodbridge, swept Howell, beat Brick and so on.
Prediction – Although I have them losing a tough one in round one, I could also see them just as easily playing for the championship in the finals. (odds to win it all 6-1)
7- Manalapan – This team has made a habit of blowing out bad teams and getting blown out by the good ones. The lone exception to this was when they beat arch-rival Howell in a highly contentious game.
Prediction – I just don’t think this team can put a winning performance together against a top-tier team who isn’t their rival. A quick exit is expected. (odds to win it all 12-1)
8- Lacey – This team has been pretty up and down all year. They seem to be just a notch below the top teams in the league but have played competitive against superior opponents such as Howell and Manchester.
Prediction – Don’t think they have the horses to run with their first round opponent SR. Then again, anything can happen on any given Monday…. (odds to win it all 15-1)

Manchester defeated Milltown 15 - 14
Lacey got off to a good start against their rivals but once again it was not enough as Manchester took advantage of the few errors made by Lacey to send them to a heartbreaking 13-12 loss.
So the finals are all set it will be Manchester at Milltown next Monday for the ASL trophy. It should be a good game that one big play could really be the difference.
Good luck to both teams and Manchester remember to bring the trophy just in case.
Ray
Manchester and Howell played a tight one until Manchester pulled away late winning 22-13.
Tinton Falls pulled together what they could of a team and put up a good fight but succumbed to Milltown 20-13.
And in the biggest upset (seed wise) in ASL playoff history, Lacey put together one of the most furious rallies ever seen, putting up 11 in the top half of the final inning and holding on to win 19-18 over WBSR.
8-Lacey (+4) at 5-Manchester, Manchester won each game earlier this season and currently has a 5 game win streak against their neighbors from the South. This will be very interesting as both teams are very familiar with one another but until Lacey can prove to get over the hump against them, Manchester should prevail.
Milltown destroyed Piscataway 38-1, nuff said.
Tinton Falls defeated Howell 19-14.
And in the play-in game, Lacey beat Woodbridge 25-8.
No other scores were reported and forfeits were put in.
I have attached a preview of the playoffs and final stats. Here is the playoff bracket for 2011:
1-WB-Shannon Rose
8-Lacey
5-Manchester
4-Howell
3-Milltown
6-Tinton Falls
7-Manalapan
2-Brick
Each team needs to bring 1 umpire to the game on Monday (knowledgeable of the game and impartial) to ensure there are no arguments over calls.
The lower seeded team will be home and should send directions as soon as possible.
It’s been a long trying season with forfeits and the like but I believe we are all set to have some great games in the playoffs.
Good luck to all.
Ray
WB-Shannon Rose, Milltown, Lacey, and Manalapan will all take forfeit victories this week.
Wall got out to an early lead but Brick came back and was able to pull out a 12-10 victory.
Manchester defeated Tinton Falls in a hard fought 17-13 game clinching the 5 seed for Manchester.
Howell blasted Toms River by the score of 25-5 clinching their division. And in the game of the week, Woodbridge got the victory it needed putting away Bridgewater 17-14.
WB-Shannon Rose and Brick will both be off
Bridgewater (+6) at Manalapan
Piscataway (+15) at Milltown
Middletown (+4) at Wall
Howell (-1) at Tinton Falls
Manchester (-20) at Toms River
***Game of the Week***
Lacey (-2) at Woodbridge
Once again, the Lacey/Woodbridge game is essentially a play in game for most likely the 8 seed (as long as Manalapan doesn’t lose and Tinton Falls doesn’t finish in a tie with just Lacey.
Howell in all likelihood will be the 4 seed unless Milltown suffers a highly unlikely defeat.
I’m glad this season is almost over as the end has been disappointing that so many teams haven’t showed up for games.
Woodbridge please send directions to Lacey and Toms River please and expect us by 5:00 next Monday. See ya then.
Ray
Manalapan won by forfeit over Piscataway.
Brick won by forfeit over Toms River.
Woodbridge gets two forfeit wins.
Shannon Rose gets a forfeit win over Union.
Tinton Falls gets a forfeit win over Middletown.
Okay, so here are the games that were played. Milltown pounded Bridgewater 27-7.
Howell came back in their suspended game with Wall to win 29-27 in 10 innings and then crushed a demoralized Wall 27-13.
Lacey led early but let Manchester come from behind losing 11-9.
And in a make up game Tinton Falls, who has made a habit of close games lately took down Brick in 11, 12-11.
Union (off) at Milltown
Manalapan will pick up fft win
WB-Shannon Rose (-20) at Piscataway
Tinton Falls (+1) at Manchester
Howell (-11) at Toms River
Middletown (+6) at Lacey
Wall (+7) at Brick
***Game of the Week***
Woodbridge (-2) at Bridgewater
As I mentioned last week, after games are played this week we may have a play-in game between two teams due to the number of forfeits in place of a couple of the Week 12 games. In order for this to happen Woodbridge will need to get by Bridgewater and Lacey will need to beat Middletown. This would then set up a show down for the 8 seed since all other 7 spots have already been decided. If either team loses then we will revisit it next week.
Any questions, please give me a call.
Ray
Brick got past Bridgewater easily 19-6.
Manalapan continued its up and down season this time getting blasted 37-13 by a Manchester team that showed what it’s capable of when interested.
Union got manhandled by Wall 33-8 in a game that may have featured some questionable sportsmanship.
Woodbridge won a huge game with Middletown, 14-13 that may have just saved their season while damaging Middletown’s playoff hopes.
Howell silenced Piscatison’s bats and dignity as they gave up one unearned run, winning 21-1.
In an extremely close game, WB-Shannon Rose scored 3 runs in the bottom of the ninth to slip past a tough Tinton Falls team and keep the dream alive, 26-25.
And in the game of the week, Lacey kept it close until the 6th inning when Milltown pulled away and won 14-5.
Next Week’s Games:
Union (off) at Woodbridge
Milltown (-17) at Bridgewater
Manalapan (-7) at Piscatison
Tinton Falls (-6) at Middletown
Toms River (off) at Brick
Lacey (+9) at Manchester
***Game of the Week***
***Wall (+6) at Howell, and the completion of the first game
Ray
Union picked up its first win of the year since it looks like Linden has decided to just pack it in and call it quits.
WB-Shannon Rose continued its quest for perfection knocking off its Applebees counterpart 22-9.
Tinton Falls swept both games from Wall, winning 15-11 and then capturing the second game 7-2.
Howell took care of Middletown 18-11.
Toms River put up a stiff test but fell to Lacey 16-12.
Milltown mashed Manalapan 31-15 firmly establishing themselves as the toughest team in North B.
Piscataway flipped the result on Bridgewater this time winning a tight one 24-23.
And the game of the week featured a solid contender for the championship in Brick dismantling a Manchester team that seems to be falling apart due to a lack of interest, 21-6.
Here are next week’s games:
Wall (-11) at Union
Bridgewater (+15) at Brick
Manalapan (-2) at Manchester
Middletown (-3) at Woodbridge
Piscataway (+10) at Howell
Tinton Falls (+7) at Shannon Rose
***Game of the Week***
Milltown (-4) at Lacey
I will no longer include games against Linden since its clear they won’t be playing any more. Since there have been and will be a number of forfeits this season, we will take that into consideration at the end of the year when it comes to playoffs and seeding. Here’s one last reminder of the July 4th date for games in two weeks so if you need to make arrangements please do so.
Ray
Bridgewater got another victory as they defeated Union 25-17.
Piscataway received a forfeit victory courtesy of Linden.
Milltown finally got back to winning, trouncing Woodbridge 23-8.
Brick seems to be separating itself from the pack down South as they easily handled Middletown 24-11.
Howell continues to play tough against the “D” Division as it was able to beat a Manchester which seems to have lost its focus, 15-10. (Note – I received several scores for this game including 15-11, 13-8, and 15-9 so I put in what I felt was fair)
Toms River was able to keep their winless record in tact as they fell to Wall, 19-12.
In the most exciting game of the day, Tinton Falls built an early lead on Lacey, only to see it vanish in the ninth, as Lacey used a relentless two out rally to score 4 runs.
Although they let Tinton Falls tie it in the bottom half of the inning, they were able to push a run across in the tenth and hold on for a 12-11 victory.
Finally, in the game of the week, WB Shannon Rose showed that right now, without a doubt, they are the team to beat as they smothered Manalapan’s offensive juggernaut, 19-5.
Next Week’s Games
Union (-2) at Linden
Woodbridge (+16) at WB Shannon Rose
Bridgewater (-1) at Piscatison
Milltown (-2) at Manalapan
Middletown (+5) at Howell
Tinton Falls (-6) at Wall, Tinton Falls (-2) at Wall
Toms River (-10) at Lacey
***Game of the Week***
Brick (-4) at Manchester
Hopefully Linden can pull it together to finish out the season. You guys could always use people from Linden Chevys as they are Doherty employees as well. Just sayin.
Ray
Middletown took their turn beating down an outclassed Union team 37-8, although I will say at least they are showing up each week which I respect them for.
Lacey also got a breather coming out of the South to smack around Piscatison for a bit, winning 26-11.
WB – Shannon Rose pounded out an astonishing 10 home runs as they lit up Wall 33-15.
Toms River continued to match Union for losses, putting up a fight against Woodbridge before faltering late, losing 25-16.
In the ASL’s most heated rivalry, Manalapan pasted Howell 21-9. I received several texts regarding this game some of which made me wonder what was going on exactly but now may be a good time to remind everyone that each team should print out a Rosnet labor report and bring to each game.
The other team can challenge you if they feel that ineligible players are being used.
Linden decided it was better to stay home then come down for their scheduled beat down by Tinton Falls, forfeiting to them.
Bridgewater also wanted no part of defending champs Manchester (and they didn’t even have to travel) forfeiting to them due to not enough players, or no field, or whatever.
Finally, in the game of the week, Milltown got off to a fast start in the first inning but couldn’t keep pace with Brick as they were defeated 20-12.
Union (+4) at Bridgewater
Linden (+6) at Piscatison
Milltown (-9) at Woodbridge
Middletown (+7) at Brick
Toms River (+11) at Wall
Howell (+8) at Manchester
Lacey (+4) at Tinton Falls
***Game of the Week***
Manalapan (-1) at WB Shannon Rose
All jokes aside, it isn’t right to not show up to games for various reasons so please make every effort to be at your scheduled games, to secure a field, to have enough girls, etc. We made sure to include everyone in this league that wanted in so it’s only right to show up for your scheduled game. Also, remember even though we are all competitive, please don’t let the heat of the moment cause a major argument especially when it comes to close calls. I expect each team’s captains to discuss and make the call and then move on. Good luck this week.
Ray
Piscataway has now won two games in a row, dumping Woodbridge 13-11.
Manchester spotted Wall an early 7-0 lead but then hunkered down to pull away for a 26-16 victory.
Milltown got back on the right track smacking around Linden 22-6.
Middletown took care of business against lowly Toms River, winning 22-12.
In a back and forth game, Howell held off Lacey 12-11 ( thanks to yours truly hitting a weakass pop-up to first to end the game with runners on base/sorry guys I’ll make up for it at some point I swear) in 8 innings for a win that could go a long way down the road.
Manalapan, who always hammers inferior teams, absolutely humiliated poor Union 56-6 in 6 innings.
Bridgewater apparently decided not to play since they had no directions and didn’t think to call to get them so they can take a forfeit to Shannon Rose.
Meanwhile for reasons unbeknownst to anyone but them Tinton Falls decided yesterday that they wouldn’t play Brick so they can take a forfeit to.
Next Week’s Games:
Union (+17) at Middletown
WB-Shannon Rose (-8) at Wall
Woodbridge (+2) at Toms River
Linden (+15) at Tinton Falls
Brick (+3) at Milltown
Manchester (-9) at Bridgewater
Lacey (-8) at Piscataway
***Game of the Week***
Howell (+2) at Manalapan
There are some distant games this week. Please collect your teams early and be on the road to get in the games. The games that were not played last week will go down in the standings as stated unless they are made up before the final day of the season. If the winning teams don’t want to make them up they don’t have to. It’s getting ridiculous to not play “just because.” Also, I’m making everyone aware who wasn’t that July 4th falls on a Monday this year. The games are scheduled for that Monday not Tuesday so if you want to play on Tuesday instead get a hold of the team you are scheduled to play and arrange to do so. Those games will not just be made up during the rain week or whatever. Ray
Lacey won a tight game over Wall 8-7.
Bridgewater finally got the bats going to smack around Linden 27-14.
Pway picked up its first win since the glory days 3 years ago, beating a sluggish Union team 16-13.
Tinton Falls’ defense looked impressive as they nearly blanked TR 12-1.
Manalapan continued their winning streak knocking down WB 27-11.
Manchest continued to roll over Middletown 15-7.
In the game of the week, SRWB won a tight game over Milltown 11-9.
Manalapan -14 at Union
Manchester -7 at WB
Milltown -9 at Linden
Bridgewater +20 at SRWB
Lacey +4 at Howell
TR +10 at Middletown
Brick -10 at Tinton Falls
Game of the Week
Piscadison -2 at WB
Reminder that all games are on Tuesday this week, please get this figured out now, there always seems to be an issue every year with atleast one team not knowing. Score correction in the Milltown/Piscadison game from last week, 33-3 not 39-10
Manalapan and Bridgewater were in a fairly tight game until Manalapan decided to get serious and put up a ton of runs in the 8th to pull away for a 36-17 victory.
Lacey’s defense forgot to show up for their game with Brick as they allowed Brick to jump on top 14-0 and never looked back winning 24-7.
Manchester is really starting to roll along as they smacked Toms River around 27-7.
Milltown punished another inferior opponent, hammering Piscataway 33-3.
A nine man Tinton Falls team rebounded this week to notch a very impressive 20-4 win over suddenly struggling Howell.
And Wall, also playing with 9, slipped by Middletown 20-16.
Both games up in North A got postponed and will either be made up before their next scheduled match-up in Week 12 or as part of a double header that week.
Bridgewater (-2) at Linden
Piscataway (-3) at Union
Woodbridge (-14) at Manalapan
Manchester (-6) at Middletown
Brick (-9) at Howell
Tinton Falls (-8) at Toms River
Wall (-7) at Lacey
***Game of the Week***
WB-Shannon Rose (+1) at Milltown

WB Shannon Rose continued its impressive start, dominating Linden 27-4.
Woodbridge pounded out a 15-4 win over Union.
Milltown slaughtered a Bridgewater team 39-10, showing them how the top tier teams crush opponents in this league.
Manalapan took out its frustrations from last week’s poor showing on lowly Piscataway 34-10.
Middletown won a tough game with Tinton Falls by a score of 12-8 (I think, I erased the text by accident).
Brick opened up an early lead on Toms River and never looked back winning 16-3.
Manchester re-established itself as a serious contender with a nearly error-free game defeating Lacey 17-7.
Finally, in a game that was moved from the original field, Wall holds a lead on Howell 26-20 through 7 innings.
Next Week’s Games:
WB-Shannon Rose (-26) at Union
Woodbridge (-4) at Linden
Manalapan (-21) at Bridgewater
Milltown (-23) at Piscataway
Tinton Falls (+2) at Howell
Lacey (+7) at Brick
Toms River (+15) at Manchester
***Game of the Week***
Wall (-1) at Middletown
A couple of notes: 1- I’m still having trouble getting a couple of the scores up North on time which causes the delay in getting them to everyone. 2- There are no ties in this league as a winner must be determined. 3- If a team gets to the field late or the game starts late for any reason and you know you will most likely not be able to get nine innings in then both teams can agree to a shortened game of 8 or 7 or even 6 innings if necessary. We’ll let the Wall/Howell game play itself out when they meet again later in the year but this will not always be the case. Good luck this week.
Ray
WB Shannon Rose annihilated the Woodbridge counterparts by a score of 27-4.
Linden held off Union as darkness set in 12-10.
It took Bridgewater 10 innings but they were able to notch their first ASL victory over Piscataway 14-13.
Manalapan made me look pretty stupid as Milltown destroyed them easily 30-6.
Down South it was Howell getting by Middletown 20-15.
Lacey pulled squandered an early lead in the middle innings only to get it back and pulled away for a 19-11 victory.
And in the game of the week, Manchester, suffering a bit of a championship hangover was not able to handle Brick, losing 12-8.
Wall and Tinton Falls will play a double header when they meet later in the season.
Union (-5) at Woodbridge
Linden (+6) at WB Shannon Rose
